The other day, I was getting ready for my afternoon walk. Usually, I take Grandma Rosario out for a nice stroll through the neighborhood and sometimes, the park. On this day, however, Grandma was busy and could not go out of the house. I got myself ready for a nice afternoon nap instead.
Then, I heard sister Alyssa say that she was taking Olive out of the house for a visit to her friend, Allison. This is a picture I drew of sister Alyssa:
WHAT? Olive was going out and I wasn't? how could this be? Sister Alyssa was taking Olive instead of me? I was going to show her!
I spoke (barked) at brother Christy and told her to get ready. I was going to take brother out for a good exercise walk (and hopefully make OLIVE jealous. I hoped she would learn her lesson.) this is a picture I drew of brother Christy...
Brother Christy got the leash and tied her hand and my harness together (this way she could not get lost). We headed out the door...I did not expect what happened next.
Now, it is well known that when dogs walk their person, we have to be very careful as to where we walk, so...we have to sniff everything that we run into to make sure that the path is safe. This means we smell the light posts, fire hydrants and trees along the way. We also have to make sure we mark these items so that other dogs know whether the trail is safe or not. We mark the spots by peeing on them...Well, guess what?!?
Brother Christy did not appreciate my stopping every few feet to ensure the safety of the trail. She thought I was wasting time! Can you believe it? I dragged her along anyway and got her to exercise really good. I took her by the school where all the kids go to learn. Then, I walked her to the park where all the kids go to play - I sometimes go there with Grandma Rosario and Mommy Patsy and I also get on the swings...weeee! it is fun to swing!
Something embarrasing hapenned: When we were near the school, I had to go. #2. Hey, it happens to the best of us. Luckily, Brother Christy had a little bag and she had to carry IT all they way to the trash can! Ha Ha Ha!
After a good amount of walking and running, I knew that Brother was getting tired so I started heading back toward the house. When we were crossing the school yard, a man saw me 'pulling' brother and he said "Who's walking who?" I don't exactly know what he meant but he could clearly see that I was walking brother...I was in the lead like any good PACK LEADER! What a funny old man.
Then, brother Christy talked on the liitle black box that rings and she said: "Yeah, O.K. we are on our way back...blah,blah,blah..." As soon as we turned the corner, I saw Olive! She and sister Alyssa were in a different house than Grandma Rosario's. Alyssa was talking to a funny girl with RED hair. And Olive was playing in the grass.
When we got there, Olive said that they had a nice visit and that Allison had offered them water -how polite. Olive also said that she had been invited back because she behaved. Just then, we were getting ready to play in the grass when Brother Christy said "Yeah, OK, I will take them home." I guess sister Alyssa and her friend Allison were going to buy stuff at a 'store' -whatever that means...
Olive and I started playing around but brother Christy did not want to play. She wanted to go home! I guess my taking her on a walk had made her tired - and grumpy. So, instead of letting Olive and I mess around on the grass, she picked us up; one under each arm, and took us all the way home. Olive and I made believe that we were loaves of bread. She was Wheat and I was Pumpernickel! How fun, ha ha ha.
I was kind-a glad that we went home because I was getting thirsty. As soon as brother Christy opened the door, I ran inside - with Olive right behind me...and headed right for the water bowl. It was tasty! I also noticed that brother Christy was also thirsty beacuse she ran to the big box that makes water and ice and she also had a big tall glass of water!
It is healthy to drink lots of water every day. That is what Mommy Patsy always says...
Anyway, I hope you like my story. I hope that I can train brother Christy and sister Alyssa to go on walks. Exercise is also good for you. That is what Mommy Patsy always says...
Woof. xxxxxxxxxxxx.Woof. ooooooooooooooo.

Saving Shadow!
My Grandma Rosario and my sister Alyssa came home on Monday afternoon. As soon as I heard them turn the corner I quickly ran to the door to say WELCOME and WHERE THE HECK WERE YOU GRANDMA ROSARIO? You see, Grandma Rosario disappeared for 3 days! Mommy Patsy dis tell me that Grandma Rosario and Brother Christy had gone to get Alyssa from college. It must be very far! I figure, it tales one and one-half days to get there, then they get sister Alyssa, then they come home and it takes another day and one-half to get back.
One and one-half, plus one and one-half equals THREE DAYS of driving.
Funny thing is; Grandma Rosario and sister Alyssa came home, but they forgot brother Christy! I wonder who is going to go back and get her ?!?
Anyway, back to my story: After I said hi to sister Alyssa and Grandma Rosario, I spoke (barked) to sister Alyssa to check Shadow, the cat, because something was wrong. You remember Shadow, the evil cat that is always trying to get me...The last couple of days, he has been very quiet and does not even want to play...Something is wrong!
I spoke to Alyssa to check him and make sure that he had not contracted the H1N1 virus that is going around. I heard that people all over the place were getting this virus. Even people as far as Grandpa Daddy lives; and that is very far!
Alyssa picked up Shadow and started looking him over. She found out that he WAS INFECTED! Lucky for Shadow it was not the H1N1, but instead it was a TICK (Ticks are blood-feeding parasites that are often found in tall grass and shrubs where they will wait to attach to a passing host. A tick will attach itself to its host by inserting its chelicerae (cutting mandibles) and hypostome (feeding tube) into the skin. The hypostome is covered with recurved teeth and serves as an anchor. Physical contact is the only method of transportation for ticks. Ticks do not jump or fly, although they may drop from their perch and fall onto a host. Some species stalk the host by foot.) I drew a picture of it so you could see it; here:
As you can see from the definition, above, this little sucker is dangerous. I know. I have had them attack me before too!
Lucky for Shadow I told sister Alyssa; because they immediately rushed him to a Hospital called Sue. I heard Grandma Rosario tell sister Alyssa "let's take him to Sue. They'll know what to do". I guess the doctors there must be really good because they were back in no time at all. I just hope Shadow did not catch a disease from the tick.
Lucky for Shadow they did not give him any medicine to take. When I get sick, the doctor usually gives me medicine to take - I have medicine for my allergies, for my ears, for my eyes, for my foot, for my...
By the way, Olive, my little sister dog was very quiet throughout the whole thing...I am not into conspiracies but I wonder...did she get the tick to jump on Shadow?

All about Olive!
So, as I mentioned in a prior blog, this little girl dog lives in our house now. She's kind of cute (that's what I hear Grandma Rosario say some times) but she is also a pain in my Butt!
I guess it is because she is a baby (that is what Mommy Patsy says) since she is only 4 months old. She was born just last January 14. Yesterday, I heard Grandma Rosario talking on the little black box with Grandpa Daddy and she said that if Olive had been born a month later, her name would have been VALENTINA...Ha ha ha!
Olive is a pain in my butt because she is always following me. I want to be cool but NO; she wants to do everything I do. If I go outside, she wants to go outside. If I want to lay quietly inside, she's always talking (barking) asking me to play with her.
When she takes a nap, she is very quiet. And she's kind-of-cute. I drew a picture of her:The hearts over her head means I like her. That is what Mommy Patsy says they mean.
I think Olive is a funny name. When all my persons eat, they sometimes eat something called a salad. I don't particularly like it but they seem to love it! On it, they put little black round balls called olives. But Olive, my little sister, does not look like that at all (see picture, above...)
I think Olive should be called Freckles because she has little round brown spots all around her nose. I heard Grandpa Daddy tell Grandma Rosario that one day when they talked in the little black box. So you understand, I am putting a picture of Olive next:
You see what I mean? She has freckles all around her nose (by the way, don't point out the fact that her nose is so big! She is sensitive to this). She told me the other say that she looovvveeddd my nose because it was small and out of the way. I took it as a compliment!
Oh, by the way...Olive is the one wrapped in the towel. Not the other one. The other one is my Mommy Patsy. I just wanted to clear this up so you don't get confused. Don't you think that Olive looks exactly like the drawing I made? I thought so!
Any way, I got to go to sleep now. Circle, Circle, Circle, Lay Down!

Shadow...again

The Ranch
I think I might have mentioned Shadow in the last couple of blogs. Please don't share this with anyone else...It is our secret! Promise? OK.
So, a long time ago when I was a puppy, I used to live with my Mommy Patsy in the city. We lived in an 'apartment' that was connected to a lot of other apartments and there were many persons there. Sometimes, my brother Christy would stay to take a nap, and other times I heard "I am going to sleep at home tonight" When the big fireball in the sky disappeared, Brother Christy would not come and take a nap with us...One day, when Brother said she was going home, she asked Mommy Patsy if 'Howie could come!"
Later in the day, Brother Christy got all the important stuff - my portable doggie-house, my leash, my food and bowl and 'Blue', my favorite toy. She put me in the house and then we got in her car and she started driving. It took a long time but we finally made it. When we got inside, she opened my house's door and there they were! Grandma Rosario and Grandpa Daddy! I had not seen them for a few moons! But I remembered them and I guess they remembered me too, since they started hugging me and playing with me. But then...the best thing happened: They opened a glass door and took me outside. It was the ranch! Such a big place. Trees and grass and flowers everywhere! They called it the back yard. To me, it was the ranch!
Then, I met him for the first time. I was sitting on the grass, just smelling the sweet smells of the ranch when from inside the house this BEAST came running out! MEOW, MEOW. Grandma Rosario had let him out. It was big and ugly and I thought this was no way to treat Howie. Brother Christy had brought me to the ranch to get killed by a BEAST!
But then, my dog super-power kicked in. I didn't know I had it in me. I got up, started barking and chasing the BEAST! He ran to the back of the ranch and in one big leap, he flew to the top of a wall made of wood. I later heard Grandpa Daddy call it a fence. When the BEAST was gone, I ran inside to tell my persons that I scared the Beast. They had all seen me chase him away. They were all laughing and talking about how tough I was in scaring 'Shadow' away...
I then learned that he was a cat. He lived at the ranch house a long time...even before I was born. My Sister Alyssa was his person. I guess it would be a while before I could call the ranch my own.
